Standing Together: Resilience, Community, and Action

Dear Friends & Community,

Right now, our community is facing an onslaught of attacks—against trans and LGBTQ+ rights, immigrant communities, DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives, and vital resources like HIV research. These efforts are not just policy changes; they are deliberate attempts to undermine our existence, erase our progress, and strip us of essential support.

The proposed defunding of charitable nonprofits, including those providing gender-affirming care, is a direct attack on our well-being. It’s about more than just money—it’s about denying our humanity. These threats impact all of us, and as demand for these critical services increases, we are preparing to meet the challenge. But we need each other now more than ever.

But we are resilient—and we are not alone.

How We Move Forward, Together:

💙 Prioritize Your Well-being

Self-care is essential during challenging times. Take care of your mental and emotional health. Stay connected to loved ones, reach out for support, and know that you are not alone.

🛡️ Prepare and Protect

For our trans and immigrant community members, ensuring that your documents and legal protections are in order is crucial. Organizations like GLAD provide legal guidance and resources. We are here to help connect you with support wherever possible.

🤝 Strengthen Our Community

Our strength lies in our unity. Now, more than ever, we need to lean on our chosen families, our support networks, and organizations like us here at Newport Pride.

📢 Stay Informed and Engage Locally

Knowledge is power, but it’s also important to engage in ways that feel sustainable for you. Local action makes a difference. Support officials and organizations that champion our values, such as The Womxn Project, who advocate for justice in Rhode Island.

💪 Take Action

We are stronger together. Whether it's volunteering, donating, or raising awareness, every action helps. We also offer various community events throughout the month—from support groups to social gatherings—to uplift and empower one another.
